5th conference panel
The Joint Programming Initiative a Healthy Diet for a Healthy Life welcomed about 240 people to its 5th international conference on the 20th of February 2019 in Bozar, Brussels. The participants represented a wide variety of stakeholders in the area of food, nutrition and health and came together to discuss the state of the art in the field of JPI HDHL and look towards the future. The report and presentations of the conference are now available on the conference website.

The conference theme: diet as leverage point towards a healthy and sustainable food system, was addressed in both keynote speeches. The first keynote speaker, Dr. Line Gordon, explained the main results of the EAT Lancet report and the sustainability and health challenges of the current food system. In the afternoon keynote Prof. dr. Helen Roche presented the new JPI HDHL Strategic Research Agenda and discussed the main challenges and priorities in the research area of diet, health and disease. Besides the keynotes, a panel discussion, inspiration sessions and parallel workshops were part of the programme. With the online discussion tool Mentimeter, the audience was actively involved, in particular during the panel discussion. As part of the conference, a JPI HDHL science vlog contest was organised. The three best vlogs were shown during the conference after which the audience voted for their favorite vlog.

The take home messages of the day were the necessity of a more significant role for nutrition and health in the food system approach and the importance of collaboration and education in order to make food system transformation possible. The final conclusion was that it is time to take action right now in multiple parts of the food system.

More information about all the keynote speeches and sessions is available in the conference report.
